Auguste
Rodin
(1840-1917)has been described as a consummate
genius of Classical sculpture, and as the father of Modern sculpture.
Born in France, where he spent his entire life, one might wonder
what Rodin has to do with the history of South Central Washington.
But, through his friendship with two Americans, the dancer Loie
Fuller and the businessman Samuel Hill, a unique collection
of Rodin's work eventually found a home at the Maryhill Museum of Art
on the banks of the Columbia River near Goldendale, Washington.
Now, for the first time, the entire Maryhill collection of Rodin
sculpture is coming to Yakima for a spectacular special exhibition. |
