Brewers Gold was produced by the Chilliwack
Museum & Archives and explores the multifaceted and often overlooked
story of the hop industry in the NorthwestBritish Columbia as well
as Washington State.
This special traveling exhibit features artifacts,
photographs, and film, some borrowed from the Yakima Valley Museum and
the American Hop Museum in Toppenish, and explores the industrys
development, the principal growers, the hop craze of the 1890s,
and the diverse cultural and ethnic workforce that included Native Americans,
Japanese, and Mennonites, each with their own story to tell.
The exhibit, which opened at the Royal British Columbia
Museum in Victoria in 2003, will be on view at the Yakima Valley Museum
through the summer of 2004.
