Cinderella in Spain
Cinderella en España

Seattle Opera returns to the Yakima Valley Museum with four daytime performances of Cinderella in Spain, a modern interpretation of the classic fairy tale, newly set in Barcelona, Spain, and sung in both English and Spanish. This 45-minute opera is suited perfectly for grades 2 through 6. Each performance will be followed by a brief question and answer with the cast.

The earliest known version of this universal and timeless rags-to-riches story dates back to 9th century China, but has variations across the globe, from Southeast Asia, to the Middle East and Africa, to Italy, Germany, France, and Britain. In all of them, humility and kindness is rewarded over vanity and selfishness.

Cinderella in Spain/Cinderella en España was created by: Kate Pogue, librettist; Mary Carol Warwick, composer; Kelly Kitchens, stage director; Melanie Burgess, costumes. The production was originally commissioned by Houston Grand Opera.

Show times on each day are at 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Seating is limited. Make your reservations now by calling the museum at (509) 248-0747. $1.50 per child; free for teachers and adult chaperones .

The Yakima Valley museum extends a huge thanks to Yakima Sunrise Rotary Club for generously underwriting this program.
