South (Guest) Bedroom
The south bedroom was reserved for guests and furnished in birdseye
maple, a source of pride for Mrs. Gilbert. People used to come and
stay a few days or weeks since transportation was slow and uncertain,
so it was important to provide comfortable quarters for them. Lois
did occupy this room as she got older as she had so many responsibilities
to help in the household.. Outside the house stand the old original
American elm trees, brought from Illinois, and they are very visible
since they have grown as tall as the house. The cupola which identifies
this as a Victorian house is just outside the east windows, but
no view through the boys' sleeping porch.
