Too Good to Leave
Behind
Blatchford Baby Clothes
c1820
Gift of Lucy Scudder
Every one of these items of baby clothing belonged to the
ancestors of Henry & Julia Scudder, and Andover, Massachusetts
textile mill owner who re-located to the Yakima Valley in 1888.
The Scudders, who were well-to-do, were able to bring many family
heirlooms with them since they could afford to rent an entire
boxcar to ship their possessions across the county.
Each of these pieces is entirely hand-sewn and represents
the the type of infant clothing available to those with the time
and money to spend on clothing which would soon be outgrown.
