Too Good to Leave

Woman's White Satin Shoes
c1835-1840
Gift of Lucy Scudder
This was a very common type of shoe in the period 1800 to
1850. They were designed for indoor wear, and hence were most
likely to be found in the homes of the more well-to-do. This
pair were the wedding slippers of the donor's grandmother Thomas,
who was married in New England in 1831. The heel-less shoes
are made of a soft white leather.
